Language and ICT to 21st century learners

After learning new resources, I am more convinced that I am an ignorant... The more I learn, the more I know I will always be an eternal student.

We are living an extraordinary revolution since the appearance of the Internet in our lives. There's such a wide range of new tools that my brain gets exhausted trying to memorize their names. But I realised that I must not get furious with myself. Thanks to the sessions with the course in the CEP of Manacor, the most important point I've learnt is that I need to be an organised person, more than ever. Maybe I won't use all I've discovered, but I know those tools exist and I can use them whenever I need them if I want to improve the way I teach. And I also need to be updated. I can't close my eyes to the revolutions. Symbaloo, Diigo and other sources are now part of my life. They help me to tidy my knowledges and my new discoveries.

I must say Thank you. It has helped me to become aware of what I can do with my knowledge, my imagination and my will of improving me as a teacher.

Queen Elizabeth and her routine

Funny session with the Queen! This is a sample of how we can use visual materials to make more attractive our sessions to our students. I have used this tool to work the present simple. It is about a daily routine but the difference when working that is that the students see a celebrity (in fact, the most important member of the royalty). Obviously, it needs to be improved but, at least, they pay a lot of attention to the video. I have used it with 2nd ESO students (second level of secondary school).
This tool is easy to work with, but it takes some time to get a reasonable good result. It is funny actually. It can be used with their favourite celebrities.

Being Prince Charles is not easy

Bubblr is an interesting, funny and, at the same time, helpful tool to create stories. It is easy to use. There is no way to get lost. It is recommendable for working in groups of 3 or 4, no matter the age the students are.
As a sample, I have created a funny short story about a typical day in Prince Charles' routine. There's no need to create stories about celebrities or royal members. Students can also be the main characters of their own stories. Most of them have digital cameras. As they work in group, the ideas can be very varied and creative.

Introducing myself

My name is Noelia Torrent. I have a degree on English Philology (University Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, 2001). I have worked as a teacher in different Majorcan secondary schools since 2004. I have always liked everything related to the English language and the English-speaking countries. English is more than a language, but it is not easy to explain...
